Can You Run with the Horses?
"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses? If you stumble in safe country, how will you manage in the thickets by the Jordan? -Jeremiah 12:5
This is a painting of perseverance. It started with a love of the horses of the Camargue in the south of France. These horses are one of the oldest breeds of horses in the world living in the harsh environment of the Camargue marshes. There they developed the stamina, hardiness and agility for which they are known today. They are born black or dark brown but as they grow into adulthood their coat becomes ever more intermingled with white hair until they are completely white.
Knowing this about the horses of the Camargue, I painted this work during a time in my life when I desperately needed to be reminded of the treasure of perseverance. The process of putting these beautiful creatures in flight on canvas encouraged me to press on to receive what has been promised me. Understanding these horses and their stamina to endure harsh external forces instilled in me a desire to stand firm through the harshest of storms.
It felt as though the Lord was asking me:
"Will you run with the horses? These trials are preparing you to do so. I can transform you as well from your brown rags to a robe of pure white. Only persevere. What I did on the cross has made a way for your healing, your strengthing, and my righteousness clothing you. Don't give up. I'm running with you."
"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light."-Colossians 1:9,10,11,12

"Therefore my brothers be steadfast immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." 1 Corinthians
"But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop." Luke 8:15
“But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up tothe synagogues andprisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name's sake. This will be your opportunity to bear witness. Settle it therefore in your minds not to meditate before hand how to answer, for I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict. You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and some of you they will put to death. You will be hated by all for my name's sake. But not a hair of your head will perish.By your endurance you will gain your lives.”
Luke 21:12-19 ESV
